How to Bluesky
I’ve used Bluesky for about 3 months now. That's not long, but I think it’s long enough to write about it. I first made my Bluesky account to follow my local weather station, Capital Weather Gang. Then I started posting every couple of days once I found out about Buffer, and everything kicked off. I got my first follower, and over the past 3 months, my follower count has slowly gone up from 0 to 80. I started to engage with users, mainly Buffer and It’s Not Jay. So, I made this guide on how to Bluesky.
Getting Started
The first thing to do is set up your profile. Add a username and profile photo with a small bio. Adding a banner image makes your profile look more professional, but it’s not required. In my opinion, the best way to make yourself stand out is by adding a custom domain to your Bluesky account—not by using a free online service, but by linking a domain for your portfolio, blog, photo library, etc.
Posting
To make posts stand out, add content such as a link with a banner image, photo, and/or video to grab the user's attention. Make your first post a bio about yourself and pin it to your profile so users can quickly see it.
Gaining Momentum
Your posts should not be low-effort or spam. Think about your posts and add tags related to your content to appear in feeds and get recommended to users. Keep doing that until you start to gain followers. One of the best ways to gain followers is by replying to posts from accounts with more followers, but make sure your replies are relevant and will gain likes.
If you keep doing that, your follower count will increase.
